A Boot That Transforms Lives In partnership with local Melbourne charity Bridge It, we've created a limited edition Bobbi Boot. This boot will raise funds to help end homelessness for young women. To mark the launch, our founder Dani recently hosted a panel conversation at our office to discuss the importance of Bridge It's work. The panel featured Carla, the CEO and founder of Bridge It; Jane, the founder and director of Igniting Change; and two remarkable and courageous women, Brea and Sarah, who shared their powerful stories with us. Bridge It Is Needed Now More Than Ever There's an escalating homelessness crisis in Victoria and the rest of Australia, with women accounting for 80% of this increase over the past few years and young people are disproportionately at risk. "Young women experiencing homelessness have either experienced or are at risk of experiencing sexual violence. They need very gender-specific accommodation and support, so that's what we set out to create when launched our Cocoon program two years ago." - Carla | | One of the most important things Carla and her team give their residents is a community - taking a "we won't give up on you" approach, much more like a family would rather than just a typical service. "I had no backup, you know, no safety net, like the majority of society does. I couldn't fall back and go home to my parents if things got rough. That's how people end up in homelessness. Bridge It is that safety net. They believe in young people and make them believe in themselves…It's really powerful and transformative." - Sarah | | | | |
Set A Reminder "It's not right for young women to have to worry about where they will sleep at night - and we want to change that." - Dani To join us in supporting Bridge It's mission and cause, the Merry People x Bridge It collaboration boot will be launching this Wednesday, 31st July with 20% of the proceeds from this boot donated directly back to Bridge It to help provide more young women with a safe home.
