Creating Homes Not Just Houses A home should be safe, nurturing, and a place to be yourself. Sadly, many young people in Melbourne don't experience this. In Australia, at least 122,000 people experience homelessness any given night, with young people aged 12-24 making up 24% of this. Which is why we are partnering with Bridge It, a not-for-profit dedicated to ending youth homelessness in Melbourne. Bridge It provides homes, community and support programs to young women leaving residential or foster care. When starting Merry People, our founder Dani knew she wanted to be a business that made a positive impact on society. So when she first met Bridge It's founder Carla, and heard some of the young people's stories, she knew she wanted to help. | | The Cocoon: Life-Changing Housing & Support When unsupported, the transition out of residential or foster care can be a significant pathway to homelessness for young people. So, Bridge It has created a program called the Cocoon to bridge this critical gap by providing life-changing housing and support during this transition. It's a place for its young residents to stay, recover, stabilise, develop living skills, and prepare for long-term housing. "I have seen the lives of all of the young women who have come through the Cocoon transform in so many ways, such as finding employment, building relationships with positive partners and building their self esteem." - Carla, Bridge It Founder As part of our partnership, Merry People is sponsoring Bridge It's peer mentoring program as well as the construction of a beautiful tropical courtyard at the Cocoon. This space will allow residents to enjoy the outdoors in a safe and serene environment. | | "It feels like we are giving young women a second chance. Another opportunity to learn life-changing skills, and build a future for themselves." - Dani, Merry People Founder & CEO Alongside the construction of the courtyard space, and the Cocoon's renovation, we also have another exciting project under construction! More details are coming very soon, so until then, head to our blog to hear from Dani and Carla about the partnership and the important work Bridge It is doing.
COLOUR & JOY FROM THE GROUND UP Merry People acknowledge and pay our deepest respect to the Wurundjeri people of the Kulin Nation - the traditional custodians of the land on which we work and gather.
