Use What You Have Month - the challenge

Personal Committment for Use What You Have Month:

  1. I will not spend money on knitting yarns, patterns, magazines, books (including Big Girl Knits *sigh*) or accessories during April* .
  2. I will use my stash to create one item** and calculate the cost of making it if I had to buy the yarn new.
  3. I will donate that amount to Medicins Sans Frontieres thus becoming a Tricoteuse Sans Frontieres.
  4. I challenge others to do something similar.

* except for during the Royal Easter Show where I will practice restraint

** in my case, a wrap for the annual TASDA raffle. Proceeds of the raffle go to charity - so it will be a double bunger for charity this month.

Jeez, I didn't think about magazines! Cripes. My DH is really enthusiastic about this challenge - given that at no point in the sorting of my yarn stash into ten large lidded tubs did he say 'you've got too much yarn' I suppose he can be forgiven.

Hmmm, magazines... well, at least Taph has a subscription to YARN, and it's quarterly, so she won't be missing the main mag ;)

My DH is pretty keen on this challenge too... he spends as much in a month on electronic components and bits and pieces as I do on knitting stuff, so I'm wondering if he'd actually join me in this frugal month? And the donation idea is a good one too.

Didn't you pre-order "Big Girl Knits", Taph? You could always place your order now, before the start of April. That's not cheating, honest it isn't.

I did think about pre-ordering and might just do it but it sort of feels like cheating.

Hope your DH joins in, Jejune.
